What you need to know about autism?

It took an American to present the first talks about autism. It was psychiatrist Leo Kanner back in 1943 who described the disorder aside from the schizophrenia that it was once thought to be. He said then that the condition was something different altogether, and it has been accepted as such since the 60s.

There is still a lot of study that is ongoing into the myths and mythology of autism. Researchers in the United States believe that the ailment in fact is endowed with a wide spectrum of forms and types to choose from. So if the one that your autistic child is exhibiting is one that you know you can handle, thank your lucky stars. There are others that are very difficult to handle.

Evidence suggests that autism patients are usually actually quite intelligent, but this is not easy to tell considering that whatever they were trying to tell you, you couldn t understand in the first instance. So you could wonder about all that intelligence locked up inside such a brilliant mind, and yet being unable to get out. How frustrating. Hopefully time will eventually help us bring such intelligence out.

An autism spectrum disorder is not autism in itself, just a condition that shares a few of the common symptoms of the syndrome. People who suffer these are actually believed to far outnumber those that do not, and the United States is believed to have them in frightening numbers. So, if your child is autistic, you are not alone.
